Biography |
Kananas Chaparadza comes from the Guruve area in Northern Zimbabwe, and joined Tengenenge Sculpture community already as a teenager. He learned sculpting from his father and developed his style especially towards Rain Birds, his favourite subject matter. Rain Bird is a common name world over for cuckoo birds that are believed to be able to attract the rains with their song. Kananas also learned to make the wooden crates and to pack sculptures for export, when he stayed in Tengenenge, which is why he is the one who, together with his brother Weferemu, crates and packs all Friends Forever sculptures on the ground in Ruwa.
